Every great meal starts with someone who cares.
Behind every breakfast served, every decorated brunch buffet, and every favorite recipe prepared is a team of dedicated culinary professionals who choose to make a difference every single day. While many cooks, servers, and dishwashers could work in traditional restaurants, they have chosen a different path—one where the people they serve become neighbors, friends, and even family.
In this Staff Spotlight, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who make our dining programs special. Their stories remind us that senior living is about much more than preparing and serving meals—it’s about creating comfort, building relationships, celebrating life’s moments, and making every resident feel at home.
We asked members of our culinary teams to share why they chose senior living and what makes this work so meaningful. Here are their stories.

As Culinary Director at Holliday Farms, I was inspired to work in senior living because of my grandmother. She lived in memory care for three and a half years. That experience gave me a personal connection to the work.
Culinary in senior living offers a chance to serve with care and purpose. It is not only about preparing food. It is about creating comfort, building relationships, and helping residents feel valued each day.
Residents have taught me the importance of spending time with friends and family. They remind me to create meaningful memories while I can. Those lessons are part of what makes this work feel so special.
Because Holliday Farms is still growing into its traditions, there is excitement around what is ahead. I am especially looking forward to patio events. With a grill and pizza oven, there will be opportunities to create fun, memorable dining experiences outdoors.
Success in this work takes more than skill in the kitchen. It also takes the ability to talk with anyone. Being personable and outgoing helps create trust and connection with residents.
Those qualities matter because dining is personal. Residents are not just looking for a meal. They are looking for comfort, familiarity, and a sense of community. A friendly conversation can make the dining room feel warmer.
One meaningful moment happened when I noticed someone sitting alone in the dining room. I approached them and sat down. They were happy to have someone new to talk to and no longer be sitting by themselves.
That simple moment turned into friendship. Now, we check in on each other when we see one another. It was a reminder that dining in senior living is about more than what happens on the plate. Sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can offer is presence.
Every member of our culinary team has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common—a passion for serving others.
Whether they’re preparing a resident’s favorite comfort food, celebrating a birthday, or simply greeting someone with a smile, their work goes far beyond the kitchen. They create moments of joy, foster meaningful relationships, and help make our communities feel like home.
To every cook, server, dishwasher, and culinary leader who chooses senior living over a traditional restaurant, thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to hospitality make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents every single day.
Together, we’re not just serving meals—we’re serving memories.
