Moving into a senior living community is a major life transition. While there is often excitement about new opportunities and friendships, there can also be uncertainty as residents adjust to a new home and routine.
One of the most valuable resources we have during that transition is our Resident Ambassador program. Resident Ambassadors help create connections, offer encouragement, and provide the kind of peer-to-peer support that can make a new resident feel welcome from day one. Their willingness to reach out, share their experiences, and invite others into community life helps turn neighbors into friends and a community into home.
As Resident Services Director at Holliday Farms Senior Living, I have seen firsthand the difference these resident leaders make in helping new residents feel comfortable, connected, and engaged.
A successful move-in experience begins with a warm welcome and steady support. At Holliday Farms Senior Living, that starts with a welcome bag, a personal introduction, and check-ins throughout the day to make sure the new resident has what they need.
Those first moments can make a new home feel more comfortable. Moving in can bring a lot of questions, so having someone stop by, offer help, and make introductions can ease some of the uncertainty.
Resident Ambassadors are part of that welcome. The Resident Services Director shares information with ambassadors about who is moving in and introduces them soon after the resident arrives. This helps create an early connection with someone who already understands daily life in the community.
Some of the most meaningful welcomes are simple and friendly. A Resident Ambassador may invite a new neighbor to join them for a meal or stop by their apartment to see if they would like to take a walk and explore their new home.
These small invitations can help a resident begin to feel connected without pressure. They offer a friendly face, a natural conversation, and the reassurance that someone nearby wants them to feel included.

Residents often respond quickly to other residents because they share the experience of living in the community. There is a sense of “we are in this together” that can make peer support feel comforting and genuine. That shared connection helps new residents feel less alone as they settle in.
Resident Ambassadors help shape the culture of Holliday Farms Senior Living by creating a welcoming, resident-driven environment. Their presence gives new residents the chance to have a friend right away, especially during those first days when they may not know anyone yet. Through hospitality, engagement, and belonging, ambassadors help make the community feel more like home.
Resident Ambassadors do far more than welcome new residents—they help build the culture of our community. Through simple acts of kindness, genuine friendships, and a willingness to include others, they create an environment where people feel seen, valued, and connected.
The move-in process may only last a few days, but the relationships formed during that time can have a lasting impact. We are grateful for the Resident Ambassadors who help make our community a place where every resident feels like they belong.
